ABOUT US
U S Pest Control Company is
located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and serves the counties of Santa Fe,
Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, Taos, and parts of San Miguel,
Mora, and Colfax counties (see service area map).
Our goal is to provide high quality service
at affordable prices.
Whenever possible we prefer treatments
which do not use chemicals, depending instead on mechanical and cultural
methods of treatment.
U S Pest Control Company is
owned by Joe Sandoval a native of Santa Fe.
Joe began his career in pest control while
attending high school, first working as an exterminator helper in the
summer of 1974 with National Pest Control Co.
In 1975 he was accepted into the Industrial
Cooperative Training program at Santa Fe Vocational Technical School,
where he studied Extermination / Pest Control.
Joe obtained his first Operators /
Technician license in the fall of 1975.
In 1977 upon graduation from Santa Fe High
School Joe received a Certificate in Extermination.
After serving as a
paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, Joe returned to Santa Fe
and continued working for National Pest Control Co. as a Manager / Pest
Control Technician.
In 1981 Joe attended New
Mexico State University (NMSU) studying Entomology / Plant Pathology and
Agricultural Biology for two years.
While attending NMSU Joe worked for
Livestock Entomology.
His duties included rearing arthropods such
as: hornflies
(Haematobia irritans), stableflies
(Stomoxyn calcitians), houseflies (Musca domestica), scabies mites
(Psoroptes ovis), and other insects and arthropod species as
required.
Joe
took part in
studies of the economic effects of insects and
arthropods on animals:
Applying infestations, chemical
treatments,
and collecting data of the effects of
infestations, and treatments.
From 2001 to 2015 Joe was the
General Manager of Coates Tree Service Inc.
As part of his duties he oversaw the Plant
Healthcare department which specializes in the diseases and insects that
effect trees.
During the early 2000's he lead the company
through the piñon ips bark beetle (Ips confusus) infestation which
decimated large stands of piñon pine (Pinus
edulis) trees in Santa Fe County.
Joe is proud of his actions in limiting the
use of pesticides during this period, when property owners wanted
forests of piñons sprayed.
In an effort to limit the amount of
pesticides applied to the environment Joe would educate property owners
on the biology, and ecology, of the Bark Beetle, urging them to only
treat key landscape trees when treatment was necessary.
Today, Joe continues this
philosophy urging customers of U S Pest Control to use an integrated
pest management approach, that uses chemicals only as a last resort.
When chemicals are necessary only chemicals
with the least toxicity to people, pets and the environment are used,
In addition, when chemicals are used they
are only applied to limited areas, and at the lowest rates possible to
achieve the desired results.
At
U S Pest Control the safety of people, non target animals, and the
environment are our top priority.
